Hickory’s McKenzie Gustas carded one of the best rounds of golf in Mercer County girls history Thursday by firing a 6-under-par 66 in the Tam O’Shanter High School Girls Invitational.

Gustas broke her own school record of 67 set last week in a Region 1 Mega- Match at Deer Creek Golf Course in Hubbard and it was also a women’s course and Tamie Invite record at the golf course.

Gustas’ round included birdieson holes No. 1, 5, 7, 12, 13, 15, 17 and 18. Tamie Director of Golf John Kerins reported to The Herald that the previous women’s course record of 68 was shot in the 1960s by New Castle native Maureen Riley.

Hickory captured the Tamie team title with a 219 as Sasha Petrochko shot a 75 and Leah Benson carded a 78. Petrochko was 4th overall and Benson 5th.

South Fayette’s Marissa Malosh finished 2nd overall with a 73.

Coach Craig Antush’s Hornets were followed in the team scores by

Grove City’s Sam Norris and Toby Matson both shot 74 on Thursday to lead the Eagles (317) to victory at Deer Creek Golf Course, Hubbard.

Hickory (333) finished second and Slippery Rock (339) took third, followed by West Middlesex (354), Wilmington (375) and Sharpsville (394).

Sharon only had 3 golfers, but Jacob Cattron fired a career-best 72 to earn medalist honors.

Slippery Rock’s Jacob Wolak carded a 73. Cameron Colbert led the way for Hickory with a 78.

• Hickory High girls’ golf team tallied another Region 1 Mega-Match win Tuesday.

On Tuesday at par-72 Oakland Beach Golf Course, McKenzie Gustas garnered medalist honors by shooting 72, just 3 strokes ahead of teammate Sasha Petrochko. Leah Benson brokered 85 for Hickory Head Coach Craig Antush.

• Grove City 4, Wilmington 1 – At Grove City, the Lady Eagles improved to 4-0 with the win over Wilmington.

Mary Coulter and Macy Mattson picked up singles wins for Grove City while Taylor Dlugozima won at third singles for the Hounds.

Katie Feng-Cana Severson and Lillian Conger- Jane Coulter teamed up to sweep the doubles competition for the Lady Eagles.

• Grove City 4, Sharon 1 – At Buhl Park, the Lady Eagles swept the singles matches and won at second doubles to defeat the Lady Tigers.

Mary Coulter, Macy Mattson and Abby Aument were singles’ winners while Lillian Conger and Jane Coulter picked up the win at No. 2 doubles. Miranda Metro and Megan Messina teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles for Sharon.
