COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Grove City College wide receiver Cody Gustafson has been selected as one of 15 semifinalists for the prestigious Gagliardi Trophy, presented to the most outstanding football player in NCAA Division III.

The Gagliardi Trophy (presented by Jostens and the J-Club of Saint John’s University of Minnesota annually since 1993), recognizes excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

The award is named after John Gagliardi, Saint John’s legendary Hall of Fame head football coach who passed away at the age of 91 in 2018. He retired in 2012 with 489 career victories, the most in college football history.

Gustafson caught 97 passes for 1,420 yards and 14 TDs in 11 games this season for Grove City. He leads NCAA D-III in receiving yards and ranks 2nd in receptions. Gustafson leads all active NCAA players with 5,305 career receiving yards and his 341 career receptions are No. 2 among active college football players.

He closed his career by recording 13 catches for 232 yards and 4 TDs in Grove City’s 49-7 win over Utica in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Scotty Whitelaw Bowl.

Gustafson earned Presidents’ Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the 2nd straight season. He also earned his 4th 1st-Team All-PAC honor. Gustafson is a 2-time College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American in football and recently earned Academic All-District honors for the fall 2021 season.

He has also been named CoSIDA Academic All-America in track & field.

Gustafson owns a 3.93 grade-point average while majoring in mathematics and finance. He has been named to the PAC’s Academic Honor Roll and the Dean’s List. He has volunteered with Operation Christmas Child, the Shippensburg Area Youth Association and several other charitable endeavors both on and off campus.

The Gagliardi Trophy finalists will be announced during a live television program Dec. 9 on

Hosts Pat Coleman and Frank Rossi will profile the finalists during the program. The 2021 Gagliardi Trophy winner will be revealed on D3football. com during the week of the NCAA D-III football national championship, which will be held Dec. 17.
