GROVE CITY — The Grove City 11-year-old all-star team features 11 players from last year’s state qualifying Minor Division (9-10) team.

If they make a return trip to the state tournament, their parents won’t have to drive them very far after Grove City Little League was awarded the Western Region Tournament, which runs between August 3 and August 7.

The regional tournament is new to Pennsylvania’s little league tournament and follows the district and section tournaments. The winner of the Western Region Tournament will face the winner of the Eastern Region Tournament.

“Grove City Little League offered to host a tournament this year and we were selected to host the 11-year-old Western Region State Tournament,” GCLL President Dean Osborne said. “The teams will be the winners of Sections I, II, III and IV — the four sections from the western half of the state.

“Hopefully, our locals will be successful and be competing in it. If they’re not, it’ll be great to still have it here. It’ll do a lot of great things for our league.”
