GROVE CITY AREA – Nearly 800 Penn Power customers in Mercer County were without electricity late this morning due to high winds and snow that caused damaged overnight.

According to the outage map on the First Energy website around 11 a.m., roughly 785 customers didn’t have power. For most of the outages in the Grove City and Mercer areas, power was expected to be restored by 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

There were 28 outages in Findley Township; six in Grove City; 16 in Jackson Township; 70 in Jefferson Township; seven in Liberty Township; 122 in Mercer; 116 in Pine Township; 109 in Springfield Township; and 42 in Wolf Creek Township.

Chris Eck, a spokesman for Penn Power, said that the combination of heavy, wet snow and winds led to some downed wires and tree branches. He warned residents to stay away from any downed power lines.

If power is still out this weekend, Eck said customers can call 1-888-544-4877 to report the issue.
