A new king in the castle

MONICA PRYTS | Allied NewsKings Family Restaurant, 1920 Leesburg Grove City Road, Springfield Township, closed in mid-May. A new restaurant owned by JEDD Enterprises Inc., which operates TimberCreek Tap & Table, will take its place.

A new eatery will be taking over the former Kings Family Restaurant in Springfield Township.

“We’re thinking a little more modern and casual,” Cody Kelly said on Thursday.

He’s a co-owner of TimberCreek Tap & Table, which has locations in Meadville and Springfield, and he manages the township restaurant at 15 Holiday Blvd.

TimberCreek is owned by JEDD Enterprises Inc., which is in the process of buying the nearby Kings property, 1920 Leesburg Grove City Road.

Kings closed in mid-May; a sign posted on the door thanked the Grove City community for 21 years of business. All of the restaurant’s signs have been removed from the property.

Representatives of the Kings corporate office could not be reached for comment.

Kings Family Restaurant on state Route 8 in Harrisville remains open.

Paperwork for the new restaurant refers to the business as “Fast Eddie’s,” but Kelly said the name will be changing. The company is currently using that name so it could file paperwork for things like a liquor license transfer request.

A liquor license hearing is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the Springfield Township municipal building, 406 Old Ash Road.

The menu is also in the works and might feature fusion cuisine, Kelly said.

“We wanted to try to create something more unique,” he said.

A bar area will be added along with comfortable lounge seating. There might be a private dining room, and crews are hoping to start renovations around July 1.

They hope to have the new restaurant opened this fall in time for the holiday shopping season.

There are a few other restaurants in that area of state Route 208, but they all offer something different, Kelly said. That area also includes several hotels and Grove City Premium Outlets.

“More competition creates more draw to the area,” he said.
