• The American Red Cross continues to deal with strained supply levels of blood products, especially following this weekend’s devastating tornadoes, when they provided about 200 donations to hospitals.

All donors will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt while supplies last. Those who donate Jan. 1 to 31 will earn a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LVI in California.

Make an appointment to give blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Opportunities include:

• The VFW Auxiliary is hosting a mix and match cookie sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 18 at the VFW on Blair Street in Grove City.

The cost is $8 a dozen, and proceeds benefit veterans, active military and community projects.


• The Grove City Community Library announces the following:

» The Polar Express Pajama Party will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 17. Families are invited to wear their pajamas and bring a blanket. Enjoy popcorn and a hot chocolate bar plus a visit with Santa. Registration is required.

» The fifth annual Noon Year’s Eve Party will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 31. Guests are asked to bring a snack to share and a donation for Grove City Area Pet Rescue.

Celebrate the new year with a disco dance party, crafts, activities, photo booth, noisemakers, and a balloon drop at noon. Registration is required.

Lakeview Area Public Library hosts these events and programs:

» Help the library decorate its Angel Tree. For a small donation, you can write the name of a loved one on angel to honor or memorialize them and hang it on the tree. Pick up your angel on Dec. 17 or 21 to take home.

» Story time for preschool-aged kids is held at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays at the library.

Lakeview Area Public Library is at 3265 S. Main St., Sandy Lake. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. It will be closed on Dec. 24 and will reopen Jan. 4.

» The library is collecting children’s artwork to display in the children’s section while it undergoes some improvements.

» “Everyone Paints: Gnome of Deer Painting” will be offered between 2 and 5 p.m. Dec. 16. Cost is $22 per painting.

» Enjoy a game of Pahrcheesi or learn how to play at 4 p.m. Dec. 21.

» The book discussion group meets at 6 p.m. Dec. 17. This month’s book is “The Christmas List” by Richard Paul Evans. Copies are available at the library.

» Want to track Santa as he makes his way around the world on Christmas Eve? Call the library to schedule a computer session where you’ll learn all about it.

» The library is collecting new children’s picture books, gloves and mittens for local kids. People can also drop off items for Toys for Tots, and after Thanksgiving, there will be a Salvation Army gift tree.

» Preschool Story Time is is held at 10 a.m. Thursdays followed by Preschool Free Play at 10:45 a.m. Call the library to register.

Mercer Area Library is at 110 E. Venango St., Mercer. It is open 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday; and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. It closes at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 23 and 30, and will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31 and Jan. 1 to 3.
