Big plans ahead for local escape room

Mystery Mayhem Escapes' latest themed escape room features a tea party and croquet course. Players will need to navigate the room and solve puzzles in order to lower a drawbridge leading into the castle where they will face another set of obstacles before escaping the room.

After a full year of operation, owners of Mystery Mayhem Escapes are just beginning to hit their stride in providing a fun and unique form of live adventure entertainment. For those who are not familiar; an escape room is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and must use elements to solve a series of puzzles to escape or complete a mission within a set time limit.

A third room has recently been added to the Mystery Mayhem collection: “Alice’s Wonderescape.” In this adventure, groups of up to eight friends must help Alice break into the Evil Queen’s castle and find a way to escape through the Looking Glass in 60 minutes or less. An hour may seem like plenty of time to solve all the puzzles, but as the timer ticks down toward zero, the adrenaline starts pumping and the thirst for victory kicks in.

The next room is already in the planning phase. This room will offer an unexpected twist on the traditional escape room format. While the theme is still a surprise, it does promise to integrate the use of more high-tech props and puzzles to coincide with the theme. From initial concept, to determining the puzzle flow and design, to the construction of props and puzzles a “new” room typically takes five to six months to complete. The plan is to post entertaining video clips as the new room is being built to give viewers a behind-the-scenes peek at what goes into putting together a room and some of the challenges involved.
