HARRISBURG – Super Bowl Sunday has grown into a celebration that leads to an increase in impaired driving and associated crashes, according to the Pennsylvania DUI Association.
Many of the 3,400 impaired driving arrests made in February happened over the Super Bowl weekend between Feb. 2 through Feb. 4, the Pennsylvania State Police Uniform Crime Reporting system reports.
State police are urging motorists to use sound judgement and plan ahead.
“Police officers across the Commonwealth will be out looking for impaired drivers during the upcoming Super Bowl enforcement period,” said C. Stephen Erni, executive director of the PA DUI Association.
“Increased patrols along with other means of detection and apprehension of impaired drivers will be employed throughout the state to ensure the safety of all motorists traveling on Pennsylvania’s highways and traffic ways.”
