Garage sale to aid girls’ home set for Aug. 8-9
A yard sale to benefit The Laura Walker Project in Grove City will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 at 610 E. Main St. Ext., Grove City, about a half mile east of Grove City YMCA.

Grove City community members are invited to help paint a mural to ornament Olde Town on July 25.

Prowl for owls, hike your heart rate at MMSP
The following events are upcoming at McConnell’s Mill State Park:
´´ Owl Prowl, 8:30 p.m. May 23. Bring a flashlight, wear sturdy shoes and meet in the Hell’s Hollow parking lot.
´´ Heart Hike, 4 p.m. May 25. The first in a series of five guided hikes this summer. Wear sturdy shoes and bring drinking water. Meet in the Kildoo Picnic Area.

Support local man with brain tumor at benefit
Barkeyville Church of God, located on Route 8 in Barkeyville, will hold a pasta dinner and bake sale to benefit Gary Schermerhorn, who has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

Earth Day events
SRU’s Macoskey Center celebrates Earth Festival
Every day is Earth Day at the Macoskey Center at Slippery Rock University.
The center will celebrate Earth Day with its 18th annual Earth Festival at the center, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 19.
A number of activities are planned:
ä Adult workshops on backyard birding; organic cooking; wind and solar power; climate change; biodiesel demonstration; composting; and apple tree grafting;

Things to do
Discover vernal pools on walk at Jennings
Find out how a puddle provides biodiversity at 2 p.m. April 6 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Slippery Rock. Registration is needed by March 31.
Jennings staff will lead a walk, allowing participants to observe the species that thrive in vernal pools and examine why these special spots are important. Vernal pools are home to amphibians like the spotted salamander and wood frog.

Support various charities at Rotary Club dinner
The Slippery Rock Rotary Club will sponsor a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 27 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 670 S. Main St., Slippery Rock.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The all-you-can-eat meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and beverage. Desserts will be available for additional cost.

Second annual craft show set at Legacy Banquet
The second annual craft show, sponsored by Legacy Banquet & Conference Center, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 8 at the banquet hall, 1946 Mercer-Grove City Road, Grove City.
The show will feature hand-crafted products like jewelry, embroidered and quilted items, centerpieces, gift baskets, paintings and wooden toys; designers like Dos Chicas Designs, A Bit of Bling, Aunt Dee’s Doodles, Horsefeathers, Karen’s Kountry Kreations, Paden Crafts & More and Willowbrook Art Studio.
Food from Hog Wild BBQ & More and Kaleido Kone Creamery will be available, as will snacks from Nutt Road Honey Farm.
Admission is $1.

Mercer Area Library, 143 N. Pitt St., will have a Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 9 to 16 during regular library hours.

Moraine hosts sleepover; all invited
Moraine State Park closes at sunset, and there is no campground within the park. This program is made to break the rules. Anyone interested in hiking, camping and Moraine State Park is welcome to attend an overnighter, regardless of age.

Summer is in full swing and it is time to head outdoors. Jennings Environmental Education Center in Slippery Rock offers a variety of guided hikes for a range of abilities.

Take an evening bike ride around Lake Wilhelm
Enjoy a leisurely bike ride around Lake Wilhelm, M.K. Goddard State Park, Sandy Lake, from 7 to 9 p.m. July 7 as evening fades into night.
Meet at the Environmental Learning Classroom, pedal around the lake and return to the Marina to watch the sun set.

Local churches host Vacation Bible School
Grace United Methodist Church and Mount Olive Baptist Church will run VBS together at Grace’s 210 S. Broad St. location in Grove City from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 16 to 20.
