ä Hickory 4, Kennedy Catholic 1 — At Buhl Farm Park, Ross Rosati, John Smaltz and Michael Funera forged straight-sets singles wins, while the doubles duos of Stephen Petrochko-Zach Walters also won in the Hornets’ season-opener.

SOFTBALL

ä Mercer 6, West Middlesex 5 — At Veterans Field at Brandy Springs Park, Mercer, a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 7th inning gave the Lady M’s (2-0) the win.

Ali Cameron earned the win. She struck out 5, issued 1 walk and gave up 3 hits in pitching the final 4 innings.

Jess Province singled and doubled for Mercer and Heather Woods ripped 2 singles and a double.

Jordyn Allen suffered the loss for WM. She went the distance with 8 strikeouts, 6 walks and gave up 5 hits.

Offensively for the Ms. Reds, Taylor Gilliland belted a solo home run and doubled, Brooke Parcetich had 3 singles and Molly Stitt tripled.

ä Wilmington 13, Kenn-edy Catholic 3 (5 inn.) — At New Wilmington, Abby Sotter fanned 8, walked 1 and scattered 6 hits in a complete-game performance in lifting the Lady Hounds to a win in their season-opener.

Cassidy Marett ripped 3 singles for Wilmington and Alanna Elliott and Ashley Houk had 2 singles each.

Emily Taylor went the distance for KC. She whiffed 4, walked 3 and surrendered 12 hits.

Donique Marcella doubled and singled for KC.

ä Franklin 2, Reynolds 1 (8 inn.) — At Transfer, Paige Baker fanned 17, issued no walks and only allowed 2 hits, but the Lady Knights were able to manufacture runs in the 5th and 8th innings to earn the win.

Alaura Straka had 2 singles and Samantha Campbell doubled for Reynolds (0-1).

Franklin’s Izzy Romanowski gave up 6 hits to earn the win. Julia Peiffer and Christine Rice doubled.

ä Sharon 19, Slippery Rock 4 (3 inn.) — At Wengler Field in Sharon, the Lady Tigers opened the season with a rout of the Lady Rockets.

Gabby Gadola pitched the 3 innings for Sharon. She fanned 1, walked 1 and gave up 4 hits.

Aubriana Dellibovi had 2 doubles and 5 RBI for the Lady Tigers, Kristina Jacoway ripped a 2-run double, Kelsey McGranahan singled, doubled and drove in 2 runs and Amelia Crawford added 2 singles.

Morgan Longdon went the distance for SR. She had 1 strikeout, 13 walks and gave up 9 hits. Jordan McCauley belted a 2-run homer for the Lady Rockets.

ä Sharpsville 12, Grove City 11 — At South Py, McKenzie Popatak had 3 hits and drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning, scoring Olivia Shuttleworth, as the Blue Darlings opened their season with a 1-run win over the Lady Eagles (0-2).



Maddie Shuttleworth went the distance for Sharpsville. She struck out 5 batters and gave up 10 hits.

Eugena Davies belted a home run for the Blue Darlings, Maddie Shuttleworth and Kelsey Falconi both doubled and Megan Davis and Megan Whalen had 2 singles each

Maddie Elberty suffered the mound setback for GC. She pitched the final 2ì innings and fanned 3, walked none and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits.

Offensively for the Lady Eagles, Micaela King doubled, Taylor Shingledecker ripped 2 singles and a double, Kristi Sestak tripled and collected a pair of singles and Grace Dadza had 3 singles.

ä Mercer 16, Slippery Rock 5 (5 inn.) — At Slippery Rock, Analise Whenry singled, doubled and tripled as coach Jack Trott’s Lady M’s opened the season with a win over the Lady Rockets.

Melissa Shoemaker was the winning pitcher. She fanned 3, walked 3 and gave up 7 hits in 4 innings of mound duty. Ali Cameron pitched the 5th frame. She struck out 2, issued 2 walks and gave up no hits.

M. Langdon went the distance for Slippery Rock. She whiffed 1 batter, only gave up 4 hits, but she walked 11.

Jordan McCauley belted a home run for SR, Marie Bosch singled and doubled and Cassie Vogan had 2 singles.

ä West Middlesex 13, Grove City 3 (5 inn.) — At Memorial Park, Grove City, Jordyn Allen pitched and batted the visiting Ms. Reds to victory.

Allen annexed 6 strikeouts in 5 frames, walking 4 and scattering a half-dozen hits. She helped herself by singling, doubling and scoring 3 runs.

Also for Middlesex, Molly Stitt doubled, Taylor Gilliland singled twice and scored 4 runs, and Chelsea Reed and Randi McCullough collected 2 hits apiece. Middlesex mustered a dozen safeties.

Losing pitcher Maddie Elberty ended with 5 hits and 1 walk allowed in 1ê innings.

Reliever Taylor Shingledecker was touched for 7 hits and walked 4 while whiffing 3. Shingledecker slammed a solo shot and Micaela King clubbed a pair of hits in the loss.

BASEBALL

ä Grove City 9, Mercer 0 — At Memorial Park, Grove City, a quartet of Eagles’ pitchers permitted just 1 hit in the combined shutout.

Jesse Hodge started and worked 3 hitless innings, walking 2 and fanning 4 for the win. Jordan Anderson added 2 perfect innings of relief, and Brandon and Ryan Grace each tossed an inning.

Thorn suffered the mound setback.

Anderson annexed a 4-for-4 plate performance that included 2 RBI, and Ben Lucas lent 3 hits for Grove City (2-1). Also, Matt Gordon drilled a double.

ä Grove City 6, Hickory 0 — At Memorial Park, Grove City, Tuesday a quartet of Eagles’ hurlers handcuffed Hickory on just 2 hits.

Starter Matt Gordon garnered 2 perfect innings at the outset, but reliever Ryan Grace got the win with 2 innings of work, whiffing 1 and walking 1. Jesse Hodge and Ben Lucas followed Grace.

Jared Sample singled twice and Jordan Anderson added a 2-run single for Grove City (1-1), which snapped a scoreless stalemate by tallying twice in the 4th frame.

For Hickory, Anthony Cannone cracked a double in the defeat.

ä Sharpsville 12, Lakeview 7 — At South Py, the host Blue Devils dented the scoreboard for 7 runs in the 2nd stanza en route to the win.

Ross Llewellyn led Sharpsville (1-1) with 3 hits, 3 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Also, Jalen Mockabee and Tanner Morris each drove in 3 runs and Greg Popatak a pair. Mockabee had a hit and sac fly and Morris nad Popatak drilled doubles. Also, Tyler Wansack whacked 2 hits.

Winning pitcher Jake Bulick went 3ê innings, yielding 1 hit, fanning 5 and walking 4.

Slater suffered the Sailors’ mound setback, while Snyder stroked a double.

ä Wilmington 2, Reynolds 1 — At Transfer, Travis Brumbaugh pitched and battled the Hounds (1-1) to the win over the Raiders (0-1).

Brumbaugh fanned 11 and gave up the 1 run on 4 hits (all singles) in 6 innings on the mound. At the plate, he doubled and scored both runs for Wilmington.

Jack Mahlon took the loss for Reynolds. He struck out 6, walked 2 and gave up the 2 runs on 4 hits in going the distance.

Offensively, Paul Torok had 1 hit, 2 stolen bases and scored the lone run for the Raiders and Kellen Gursky had an RBI single.

ä Commodore Perry 11, Sharpsville 1 (5 inn.) — At the McCullough Run complex in South Pymatuning Township Wednesday, the Panthers 1-hit the Blue Devils in the abbreviated win.

Matt Jones earned the win for CP. He fanned 5, walked 4 and gave up no hits over 3 innings.

Tyler Fattman and Dan Addison both doubled for the Panthers.

Jalen Mockabee suffered the loss for Sharpsville. He gave up 4 hits.

ä Sharon 8, Hickory 6 (10 inn.) — At Hermitage, Vinnie Shaffer ripped a 2-run bases-loaded double to lift the Tigers (1-0, 1-1) past the Hornets in Region 2 play.

Nick Carlo, Cody Frazier and Justin Stefanowicz split mound duty for Sharon. Stefanowicz earned the win by pitching the final 4 innings. He fanned 3, walked 2 and gave up 3 hits and no runs.

Shaffer and Josh Nichols singled and doubled and Carlo had a single and belted a 3-run home run.

Mark DiBattiste, Jason Gay and Anthony Cannone pitched for Hickory. Cannone threw the final 2ì innings and took the loss.

Brooks Pletcher had 2 hits for the Hornets and Cannone doubled.

ä West Middlesex 6, Mercer 0 — At West Middlesex, Mike Ginther fired a complete-game 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks as the Big Reds blanked the Mustangs.

Offensively for the defending District 10 Class A champion Big Reds, Mark Colella smacked a solo home run, Jerrod Palmer doubled and Sage Pope went 2-for-3.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

ä Wilmington 117, Farrell 28 — At New Wilmington, the host Greyhounds were led by Slavi Pontius (high hurdles, high jump), Jarod Thomas (800-, 1600-meter runs), Brandon Slicker (200-, 400-meter dashes), Jon Yohman (shot put, discus), and David Perrine (long, triple jumps).

Yohman put the shot 59 feet, 9 inches.

ä West Middlesex 115, Reynolds 35 — At West Middlesex, the host Big Reds rolled to their 2nd win in 3 days.

For Coach Ed Pikna, Clay Allen (100-, 200, long jump, sprint-relay anchor), Austin Mirizio (high, intermediate hurdles), and Luke Patten (400-meter run, pole vault), as well as Trevor Harrison (shot put, discus) set the pace.

Levi Stoyer (800-meter run, distance-relay leg) led the visiting Raiders.

ä Hickory 83, Grove City 66 — At Hornet Stadium, host Hickory hurdled Grove City’s prolific Dan Jaskowak en route to the season-opening win.

Jaskowak swept the 400-, 800- and 1600-meter runs and lent a leg to the Eagles’ victorious 4x4 relay team.

For Hickory, DeShawn Coleman (100-, 200, sprint-relay anchor), Luke Lewis (shot, disc) and Matt Marzano (long, triple jumps) led the way. Lewis put the shot 58-3è.

Also for Grove City, Kyle Trinch swept the high and intermediate hurdles.

ä Lakeview 105, Mercer 45 — At The County Seat, the visiting Sailors coasted to the win, led by versatile Zach VanDusen (long, triple jumpers, 100-meter dash) and sprinter Blake Reddick (200, 400), as well as thrower Joseph Armstrong (shot, disc) and distance ace Workman (3200-meter run, distance-relay leg).

For Mercer, Kevin Reno recorded a double-double in the 800- and 1600-meter runs.

ä West Middlesex 136, Sharpsville 11 — At West Middlesex, Austin Mirizio, Jeremy Jancso and Clay Allen were triple-event winners for the Big Reds.

Mirizio and Allen were part of the 4-some that won the 400 relay (45.4). Mirizio swept the hurdles and Allen took 1st in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Jancso swept the jumps.

Sharpsville’s lone win was in the 1600-meter relay.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

ä Wilmington 122, Farrell 18 — At New Wilmington, the host Greyhounds garnered multiple wins from Tessa Sikora (triple, high jumps, 200), Hannah Drake (long jump, distance- and mile-relay legs), Rikki Brumbaugh (3200-meter run, 4x8 and 4x4 relays), and Julie Falvo (shot, disc), as well as Kate Robb (1600, distance-relay leg).

ä West Middlesex 121, Reynolds 29 — At West Middlesex, Kristen White broke a 21-year old school record in the 1600-meter run to pace the Ms. Reds (2-0).

White clocked in at 5:27.7 to shatter the 1992 mark held by Beth Sanderbeck (5:33). White also won the 800 and 3200.

Also for WM, Kelsey Murray swept the hurdles and ran on the winning 1600 relay team, and Aerial Pratt swept all 3 jumps and was part of the foursome that captured the 400 relay.

Rose Stoyer was a double-event winner for Reynolds, finishing 1st in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

ä Hickory 75, Grove City 75 — At Hornet Stadium, the teams ended deadlocked.

Courtney Corban (100-, 200-meter dashes), Lauren Decker (400-, 800-meter runs, distance-relay leg), Mary Jaskowak (1600-, 3200-meter runs, 4x8 relay), and Mckenzie Fagan (triple, high jumps) led the visiting Lady Eagles.

For Hickory, Sophia Fustos put the shot 41-1è, while Madison Bell (high hurdles, sprint-relay leg) and Morgan Pellis (long jump, 4x1 relay leg) led the host Lady Hornets.

ä Lakeview 92, Mercer 68 — At Mercer, the visiting Lady Sailors secured the win, led by Marla Holland (100, 200), jumper Courtney King (high, triple).

For Mercer, Jenny Berger swept the high and intermediate hurdles and lent a leg to the Lady M’s winning sprint- and mile-relay foursomes. Also, Bowersox bested the field in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.

ä Sharpsville 66, Kenn-edy Catholic 39 — At West Middlesex on Tuesday, the Blue Darlings defeated Kennedy, led by Madison Przicina’s win in the 400-meter dash.

Tatum Kress (shot, javelin) and Tawney Godfrey (long, triple jumps) were multiple-event winners to key KC, coach Joanne Sharper reported.

ä West Middlesex 124, Sharpsville 22 — At West Middlesex, Alyson Pierce and Kelsey Murray won 3 events each in leading the Ms. Reds to a season-opening win over Sharpsville.

Pierce and Murray both ran on the winning 1600-meter relay team (2:35.6) while Pierce also won the 800 and was on the 1st-place 3200 relay squad and Murray swept the hurdles.

Roberta Pegg led Sharps-ville with wins in the 100 (15.3) and long jump (14-9 3/4).
