Robert L. Brocklehurst of 306 Fox Mine Road, Jackson Center (Jackson Township), passed way at 8 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after having suffered an apparent heart attack. He was 72.
Mr. Brocklehurst was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Jackson Center, a son of Paul and Henrietta Uber Brocklehurst.
On Oct. 26, 1963, he married the former Roberta J. Hogg, who survives.
Mr. Brocklehurst was a truck driver, having been an owner and operator.
Robert, along with his wife, operated Affordable Furniture in Sandy Lake, after which time he went on to be a manufacturer’s representative for Namaco Mattress Co., from which he retired. He and his wife also had owned and operated Mercer Bowling Lanes.
Robert had been a substitute mail carrier for Jackson Center Post Office.
He served as a past president of Lakeview School Board and the Stoneboro Fair Association.
Robert was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lake Lodge 434, Sandy Lake; and was a former member of the Motor Patrol of Zem Zem Shriners, Erie.
He enjoyed harness racing and was a member of the United States Trotting Association.
An Army veteran, Mr. Brocklehurst served during the Vietnam era.
He belonged to Coolspring Presbyterian Church, Fairview Township.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and being with his family. Robert also enjoyed gardening and raising sweet corn.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by: two sons, Robert Bryan Fry and his wife Darla, Jamestown; and Burt Brocklehurst and his wife Lisa, Jackson Center; a daughter, Robin Hostetler and her husband Lynn, Mercer; a sister, Donna Buckley, Albion, Erie County; two half sisters, Sally B. Hoovler, Sheakleyville; and Linda Ealy, Greenville; two brothers, John Brocklehurst and his wife Mary Jane, Mercer; and Paul Brocklehurst and his wife Aleta, Greenville; and a half brother, Wayne Brocklehurst, Marionville, Pa.
Robert also leaves his four grandchildren, Bronwyn Brocklehurst, Burton Brocklehurst, Luke Hostetler and Leah Hostetler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Lois B. Brocklehurst; a brother, David Brocklehurst; and an infant sister.

Funeral service was Tuesday (4-6-10) in Coolspring Presbyterian Church, Fairview Township, with the Rev. Philip H. Chalfant, pastor, officiating.
Interment with committal service at Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Jackson Township.
