GROVE CITY — Obituary was published April 17, 2010.

Avis B. Bennett of Trinity Living Center, Grove City, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at home. She was 96.

Mrs. Bennett was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Lewis and Johanna Dickson Burton.

She married Ira Jay Bennett on April 17, 1935. He died in March 2005.

Avis was a registered nurse and retired in 1975 from St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. She formerly worked at Bashline Hospital and City Hospital, both in Grove City. Also, she was a former visiting nurse in the Grove City.

She was a Methodist.

Avis was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 86, Grove City.

She was a graduate of Bridgeport (Conn.) High School and Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing.

Avis was a foster parent to many babies during her life.

She is survived by: Four children, Judith Carol George and her husband John W., Jackson Center, and Iris Jane Bennett, Robert Lewis Bennett and wife Judy D. and William David Bennett and wife Susan, all of Grove City; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Gladys Lamporte; and brother Lewis Burton.

Private family service was Friday (4-16-10) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., Grove City, with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
