Published May 14, 2008 03:25 pm - Ernest W. Schulz, 202 S. Foster Road, Jackson Township, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Friday (5-9-08) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. He was 94.

Ernest W. Schulz, 202 S. Foster Road, Jackson Township, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Friday (5-9-08) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. He was 94.

Mr. Schulz was born Jan. 19, 1914, in Pittsburgh, a son of Daniel L. Schulz and Bertha K. Scheder Schulz.

He was a resident of Jackson Township for 89 years and spent his winters in Sebring, Fla.

Mr. Schulz was a chipper in the tank shop at the former Westinghouse Electric Corp., Sharon, for 33 years, before retiring in 1974.

He attended Vincent United Methodist Church, Jackson Center.

A lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 1637, Mercer, Mr. Schulz was also a member of the Westinghouse Retirees Association.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing golf, playing bocce and dancing. He always kept himself active.

Mr. Schulz’s first wife, Emma Louise McCarl, whom he married Sept. 12, 1936, died April 19, 1989, after 53 years of marriage. His second wife, Thelma J. White, whom he married Aug. 7, 1999, died Sept. 5, 2003.

Surviving are: his children, Donna M. Ivers and her husband Joseph, Mercer; Anita L. Andrusky and her husband, Marvin “Andy,” Hermitage; Larry E. Schulz and his wife Judi, Jackson Center; and Richard D. Schulz and his wife Linda, Stoneboro; his stepchildren, Raymond “Gene” White and his wife Nourma, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Margie White, Okla.; and Sandy Osterman and her husband Lee, Estes Park, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and both wives, Mr. Schulz was preceded in death by his sister, Bertha “Birdie” McCurdy.

Calling hours were Monday (5-12-08) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., Grove City.

Funeral service was Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. James Young of Vincent United Methodist Church, officiating.
