James 'Jim' H. Hudson

Church officer, trucker, coach has Mercer son

SHARON — James "Jim" H. Hudson of Bend Road, Lackawannock Township, passed away at 9 a.m. Monday (2-11-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 79.

Mr. Hudson was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Muskegon, Mich., to Richard William Hudson and Margaret Brophy Hudson.

Jim graduated in 1953 from Lincoln High School in Ellwood City.

He was employed for 14 years in local mills, then drove truck for 25 years for Bristol Consolidators Trucking and the former McLean Trucking, Shenango Township.

As a member for more than 50 years of Unity Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township, Mr. Hudson had served as an elder and deacon and, for 12 years, as church treasurer. He had been treasurer for the past 11 years of the church's men's fellowship and was in charge of the Magic Agers at the church.

Jim helped coach Little League in the West Middlesex area.

He was most proud of his family. He loved his grandchildren and called them nicknames like "Munchkins" and "Yakadack."

He served his country in the Navy, two years in Naval Security Systems and two additional years on a destroyer in the Far East.

His wonderful and devoted wife, the former Donna McIntire, whom he married Oct. 7, 1961, survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Sherrie L. Bush and her husband William "Wilbur," Hermitage; two sons, William Hudson and his wife Karen, Mercer; and David Hudson and his wife Cindy, Pittsburgh; two sisters, Peg Hamilton, Ellwood City; and Colleen Hudson, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Bush; Billy and Graham Hudson; and Victoria and Vanessa Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours were Thursday (2-14-13) in Smith Funeral Home, West Middlesex.

Funeral service was Friday (2-15-13) in Unity Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township, with the Rev. David Wayne Hunt, pastor, officiating.

Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, with full military honors by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex, and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church, 1857 Mercer West Middlesex Road, Mercer, PA 16137.
