William A. 'Bill' Osborne

Retired Grove City police officer loved to hunt, fish

RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio — William A. “Bill” Osborne, formerly of Flower Avenue and East Washington Boulevard, Grove City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, in Grande Pointe Healthcare, Richmond Heights, Ohio. He was 95.

Bill was born in Mercer County on Sept. 6, 1917, a son of Alexander Osborne and Minnie Coyer Osborne.

He married Lois Bailey on June 26, 1937; she preceded him in death on March 16, 2010.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy on the USS North Carolina during World War II.

He retired from Grove City Police Department where he was a lieutenant for 17 years. Previously he was employed at the former Cooper Bessemer and at the former Keystone Ordnance works. Following his retirement from Grove City police, he worked as a campus police officer for Grove City College, drove truck for Milk Transport and Hovis Trucking and drove charters for Grove City Bus Lines.

Bill and his wife Lois for many years owned and operated the Osborne's Little Store on Lincoln Avenue in Grove City.

He was a member of East Main Presbyterian Church, Grove City.

An outdoorsman, he was passionate about fishing and hunting and his camp in Forest County. He was instrumental in securing the property for Grove City Sportsmen's Club. A charter member of the club, he served as club president, secretary and treasurer for many years.

He is survived by: two daughters, Margaret Lukat and husband Cuvier, Mentor, Ohio; and Shirley L. Osborne, Acton, Mass; four grandchildren, Julie Belich, Jennifer Lukat, Jessie DiLucia, and Maggie Stackhouse; and seven great-grandchildren, Alec Belich, Garrett Belich, Hannah Belich, Anthony Ouellette, Olivia Stackhouse, Patrick Joseph DiLucia and Michael William DiLucia

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gail W. Osborne; and a sister, Catherine Wike.

Service: Was Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. William Hoffman, senior pastor of East Main Presbyterian Church, Grove City, officiating.

Burial: Clintonville Methodist Cemetery.
