HERMITAGE — Robert “Rob” J. Guthrie of Hermitage, formerly of Grove City, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, Aug. 5, 2013. He was 40.

Mr. Guthrie was born March 11, 1973, in Hermitage, a son of Robert A. and Teryl Ann Meenihan Guthrie.

He was a 1992 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, and received an associate's degree in electrical engineering in 1996 from Penn State Erie-The Behrend College.

He was an electrical design engineer for Joy Global, Franklin, for the 11 years in its underground mining department.

Rob had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hiking in McConnell's Mill State Park, Lawrence County, as well as fishing and bicycle racing. Music and song writing were also loves of Rob's and he was a self-taught guitar player.

Rob was a Christian, having recently been baptized, and will be remembered by many for his compassion and willingness to help others.

Surviving are: his mother and father, Hermitage; a sister, Lynda Rea and her husband Alan, Portage, Mich.; a special nephew, Aidan Rea; and his paternal grandmother, Mary E. Guthrie, Sharon.

Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert R. Guthrie and Terrence J. and Betty J. Meenihan.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to K-9 S.O.S., Box 7803, New Castle, PA 16107; or Pawsar (Pennsylvania Wilderness Search And Rescue), Box 513, Zelienople, PA 16063.

Service: Funeral service was Saturday (8-10-13) in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wayne Sutton, pastor of First Baptist Church, Sharpsville, officiating.

Interment: West Side Cemetery, South Pymatuning Township.
