Eleanor Elizabeth McFarland Steele

Grove City native retired from Tennessee college


CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Eleanor Elizabeth McFarland Steele, Dayton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Saturday morning, March 16, 2013 in Chattanooga, Tenn. She was 83.

She was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Grove City, a daughter of the late James Russell and Sara Lois (Weber) McFarland. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Rev. Edward Meade Steele on Aug. 9, 2000.

Eleanor had been a resident of Dayton since 1961 and retired from the business office of Bryan College. 

She was a member of Grace Bible Church and was cherished as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her three sons, Jim (Peggy) Steele, Townsend, Tenn.; John (Elaine) Steele, Dayton, Tenn.; and Joel (Libby) Steele, Ipswich, Mass.; her three daughters, Judy Steele, Dayton Mountain, Tenn.; Joy Steele, Dayton; and Joanne (Charles) Ward, Independence, Iowa; two sisters, Lois (Eugene) Knauff and Cathy McFarland, both Slippery Rock; and 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cedine Bible Ministries, Bryan College or Grace Bible Church-Morgantown Fellowship Fund.

Service: Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday (3-21-13) in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Doug Russell, Rev. David Hobbs and Rev. Jerry Levengood officiating.

Burial: She will be laid to rest next to her husband Ed and her grandson Christopher Steele in Cedine Ministries Cemetery in Spring City, Tenn.
