Derek Shane Coryea, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, passed away at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness. He was 27.
Mr. Coryea was born Dec. 25, 1984, in Parkersburg, Wood County, W.Va., to Robert L. Coryea Jr. and Nancy L. Guarnieri Coryea.
Derek graduated in 2003 from Grove City High School.
He enjoyed target shooting, snow skiing and bike riding.
Surviving are: his mother, Nancy L. McCoy and her husband Robert, Volant; his father, Robert L. Coryea Jr., Grove City; a sister, Aubri McCoy, Volant; and a stepbrother, Brent McCoy; a stepsister, Amanda McCoy; his paternal grandmother, Helen L. Coryea; and his paternal stepgrandparents, Lee and Charlotte McCoy, all Grove City.
Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins.
Derek was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Elizabeth "Adda" Guarnieri; his paternal grandfather, Robert M. Coryea; and an aunt, Dorene Mellott.
Calling hours were Sunday (10-14-12) in Smith Funeral Home of Leesburg, Springfield Township.
Funeral service was Monday (10-15-12) in the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark S. Erskine, pastor of Church of the Nazarene, Grove City, officiating.
Interment in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
