Engineer worked at Steel Car, in railroad industry

FAIRFAX, Va. — Funeral will be Saturday, May 18, 2013, for James D. "J.D." Hart of Johnstown, Pa., who passed away unexpectedly at 9:05 p.m. Sunday evening, May 5, 2013, in Fairfax. He was 63.

Jim was born July 9, 1949, and was the beloved son of Allan P. and Mary Ann Farrell Hart.

He was raised in Sandy Lake and lived in Grove City many years before moving to Johnstown.

Jim graduated from Lakeview High School in 1967 and from Grove City College in 1971, majoring in mechanical engineering. He had been previously employed as plant and design engineer for 25 years by the former Greenville Steel Car Co., which was acquired by Trinity Industries in Greenville.

He also worked at Transco Railway Products Inc. in Bucyrus, Ohio, and most recently as vice president of Global Technology for Freightcar America Corp. of Johnstown. He also held various positions in national railroad committees and had numerous patents relating to the railroad industry.

Jim was of the Episcopal faith.

He leaves behind his parents; three children, Jennifer Dawn Hart-Hanna and her husband Patrick; and Angela Kaye Hart, all Harrisville; and Thomas James Hart, Middleburg Heights, Ohio; and two sisters, Janet L. Hart, Sandy Lake; and Barbara J. Cummings and her husband Richard, Fairfax.

The children say of their father that "our dad was an honest, dependable and caring man; an exceptional father and excellent role model. He loved reading, gardening and could fix just about anything."

He worked in the engineering field for years and was very well liked by all his colleagues and co-workers. He always had a smile and a joke for everyone he met.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Martin and Lorraine Farrell; and Harry and Bertha Hart, all Sandy Lake.

Service: Memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Church of the Epiphany Episcopal, 870 Liberty Street Ext., Pine Township.
