Joseph H. Ferringer

Businessman, WWII vet, was painter, coin collector

BUTLER — Joseph H. Ferringer, Mercer, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning (12-13-12) in Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center, of liver cancer. He was 88.

Mr. Ferringer was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Sligo, Pa., to Joseph H. Ferringer Sr. and Ortanza Estelle Troutman Ferringer.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Joseph owned Ferringer's Exxon and Service Plaza, Ferringer's Restaurant and Pat's Mini Mart located in London, Pa., for 30 years. He also operated JD Vending and several other gas stations.

He enjoyed travel, fishing, coin collecting and oil painting.

Joseph was married for 65 years to Patricia Ruth Whitlinger Ferringer. Together they had six children, Randy J. Ferringer, Sacramento Calif.; Cindy R. Horodyski, Sharon; Shary E. Bowman, Palm Springs, Calif.; Debbie J. Ferringer, formerly of Lancaster, Calif., currently Mercer; Tammy J. Tomson, also Mercer, with whom he made his home; and David S.G. Ferringer, Grove City.

He was one of 11 children, and survived by his brother, David P. Ferringer, and a sister, Davon Wirt. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; both parents; his brothers, Charles Ferringer, Robert Ferringer, Noble Ferringer, Dart Ferringer and Jack Ferringer; and sisters, Goldie Keister, Beula Oppelt, Lois Szyclay and an infant sister, Star Ferringer.

Memorial service was Tuesday (12-18-12) in Center Presbyterian Church, Pine Township, with the Rev. Bill Woodman, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Chris Kostelansky of Michigan, as eulogist.

A dinner followed in the church fellowship hall.
