Jon Scott Gruber

GE plant manager was active GC church member

GROVE CITY — Jon Scott Gruber left this world at his home in Grove City to join his heavenly Father on Wednesday (5-29-13) at the age of 49 after a valiant battle with lymphoma.

Jon was a beloved husband and best friend to his wife, Paula Gruber, and loving father to his three children, Timothy James, Jordan Scott, and Jocelyn Diane Gruber.

Born to Thelma "Toots" and Lester Gruber on May 27, 1964, in Kennard, Jon was the youngest of four brothers, including Michael, Duane, and Gordon Gruber.

After his graduation from Greenville High School, Jon attended Penn State University to study engineering. At Penn State, Jon met the love of his life, Paula Gruber.

Following his graduation, Jon worked as a plant manager at General Electric and was an active member at Grove City Alliance Church.

Jon's greatest accomplishments includes being a loving and supporting husband and father to his family. Although Jon was soft-spoken, he largely impacted the people that came into his life.

His humor, love, loyalty, and courage created a legacy that will never be forgotten.

While battling his terminal illness and paralysis, Jon believed that God would be glorified through his life, glorified through his suffering and healing, or glorified through his death.

Even on his toughest days, Jon always remained faithful and committed to God. His consistent smiles, hugs and positive attitude lit up the room.

His perseverance amazed not only his friends and family but also his treating physicians and strangers.

Shortly before Jon's passing, Jon achieved his goal of attending the commissioning of his son, Jordan Scott Gruber, at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Jon's favorite Bible verse was always Romans 8:28, which reads "and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

This encouraging verse enabled Jon to suffer graciously and live a life dedicated to His calling as a husband and father regardless of circumstances.

Jon firmly believed that "many times the circumstances we go through are meant to draw us closer to God." Whether in his life, his suffering, or his death, Jon displayed a beautiful depiction of a life fulfilled in Christ.

The Grubers extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of the family and friends that supported them throughout this long and difficult journey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jon S. Gruber Legacy Scholarship, in care of Jessie (Donner) Hull, 4745 Scott Drive, Hermitage, PA 16148
