HEMPFIELD TWP — Funeral and committal service will be Sunday (5-12-13) for Martha L. Mouck Wareham of Sandy Lake. She passed away at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township, after a brief illness. She was 98.

Born Feb. 15, 1915, in Lake Township, Mrs. Wareham was a daughter of Orlo H. and Exie E. Nicklin McCartney.

She was a 1934 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School.

Mrs. Wareham retired after 15 years from what was Polk State School and Hospital, where she was a seamstress from 1964 to 1980.

Most of all, she was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers, sewing and traveling all the states and spending two winters in Fort Myers, Fla.

Martha joined Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church in 1938, holding various offices, including deacon.

In her early years, she was a member of Fairview 4-H Club.

Martha was an active member of the Lakeview community well into her later years. She was a member and past noble grand of Princess Rebekah Lodge 442 and was a member of Lady Worth Rebekah Lodge 328 and Mercer County Historical Society; and was an active member of Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with friends at McQuiston Center by the Park in Sandy Lake.

Her first husband, Samuel A. "Bus" Mouck, whom she married Nov. 25, 1936, preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1971. Her second husband, Charles E. Wareham, whom she married Sept. 6, 1984, preceded her in death June 7, 1996.

Survivors include: two sons, Donivan A. Mouck and his wife Linda, Sandy Lake; and Carmen W. Mouck, Las Vegas; a stepdaughter, Bonna Burkhouse and her husband Jim, Bradford, Pa.; and six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three stepgranddaughters, six stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandsons.

Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Vernon Mouck; five sisters, Erma Jean McFarland, Hazel McCartney and triplets Beatrice Syphrit, Bernice Morell and Bessie McCartney; and three brothers, Ralph, Willard and Howard McCartney.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. today (5-11-13) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service: A Rebekah service by Lady Worth Rebekah Lodge 328 will open at 3 p.m. Sunday (5-12-13) in the funeral home, followed by a funeral and committal service officiated by the Rev. Beth Creekpaum, pastor of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church.

Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
