FAIRHOPE, Ala. —
Yvonne Marie Bartolo Burns, of Fairhope, Ala., died at 6:37 p.m. Sunday (3-24-13) in Thomas Hospital, Fairhope, after a three-month illness. She was 85.
Mrs. Burns was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Grove City to Michael and Lucy Zappavignia Bartolo.
She was a graduate of Grove City High School in 1945; and Grove City College in 1949.
Yvonne was formerly a school teacher in Pennsylvania and Maryland. At one time, she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Washington, D.C.; and was a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines.
She was a Catholic.
Yvonne was a member of the P.E.O.; tutored for adult literacy; and was a past president of the Gulf Coast Symphony Board. She had a starring role in Look Homeward Angel in Gulfport Little Theater.
She married Donald A. Burns on May 7, 1960. He survives.
Also surviving are: three children, Brian Burns, Boca Raton, Fla.; Doug Burns, Redwood City, Calif.; and Melissa Burns, Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Emily, Aaron and Jordan Burns; and a brother, Ray Bartolo, of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Bartolo, in World War II; and a sister, Mae Wachhals.
Yvonne will be missed by her family and many friends.
