JACKSON TWP — Lawrence J. Benek, Sr., 47 W. Cape Horn Road, Jackson Township (near Mercer), passed away at Sharon Regional Health System on at 3 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. He was 91.

Mr. Benek was born Jan. 15, 1923 in Candor, Pa. to John and Josephine Lucas Benek.

He was an Army veteran.

Mr. Benek was employed at U.S. Steel- American Bridge Co.

He married Adele Nery Benek on Aug. 28, 1948. She survives.

Also surviving are: a daughter,  Lauren Quigley, wife of Richard, Duluth, Minn.; two sons, Lawrence James Benek, Jr., Harmony; and Jeffrey Lance Benek, Zelienople; a brother, Thomas E. Benek, husband of Charlotte, Evans City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and five brothers.

Burial: National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa.
