William H. "Itchy" Carlson of Grove City passed away at 10:53 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. He was 88.
Mr. Carlson was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Grove City to William H. Carlson Sr. and Sadie E. MacDonald Carlson.
He was a graduate of Grove City High School, class of 1943.
Mr. Carlson retired from the former L.M. Stevenson Co. of Grove City, where he was a welder-fabricator from 1948 to 1990.
Itchy served in the Navy on the USS Missouri during World War II from 1943-46 and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519 and American Legion Post 220, both Grove City.
He also belonged to East Main Presbyterian Church, Grove City.
His first wife, the former Ruth Irene McCauslin, whom he married July 7, 1950, passed away Feb. 29, 1992. He then married Sara Waterman Rostas in 1995. She survives at home.
Also surviving are: three children, Linda Kammer and her husband Robert, Pittsford, N.Y.; and Cynthia A. McFeely and her husband James F. McFeely Jr.; and Richard A. Carlson and his wife Jacqueline, all Grove City; a daughter-in-law, Tracey M. Carlson, Cleveland; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Joanne Evans and her husband Jack, Massachusetts.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey W. Carlson; and a sister, Vergene McCandless.
Memorial contributions may be made in William "Itchy's" name to a charity of the donor's choice.
