PUNXSUTAWNEY — Annie Laurie Williams, Punxsutawney, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. She was 88.

Mrs. Williams was born Oct, 29, 1925 in North Point, Pa., the only child of the late Dale B. and Lillian (Shields) Crawford.

She was a retired teacher for the business curriculum in the Punxsutawney School District. She also instructed the secretarial technology program at Jeff Tech and was a part-time teacher at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Punxsutawny campus.

Until her illness, Mrs. Williams was an active member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and Delta Pi Epsilon of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She held chapter and state officer positions in most of these organizations.

Mrs. Williams was the recipient of numerous recognitions for her beliefs and action in giving back to her community. She participated in Silver Sneakers and volunteered regularly at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, Red Cross Blood Mobiles and Meals-on-Wheels, when in service. She was the 2003 Punxsutawney Woman of the Year.

She was married to Leon Williams, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are: two daughters, Drinda Weber and her husband, Harrison, Grove City; Donna Anderson and her husband, Joel, Punxsutawney; a son, Darrell Williams and his wife, Bonnie, Bowie, Md.; five grandchildren, Bradi Mortimer, Butler; Heather Tate, DuBois; Kristi McEwen, Grove City; Shannan Weber, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Brad Williams, Gaithersburg, Md; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Robert Williams; a granddaughter, Tristan Anderson. Memorial donations may be made in the memory of Mrs. Williams to Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church; Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; or American Heart Association.

Services: Funeral service at 11 a.m. today in the church, with the Rev. Al Kimmel and Brett Swanson, officiating. Interment: Gilgal Cemetery.
