Veteran retired from post office, has GC area kids

ERIE — Albert Donald Metheney of Meadville passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in UPMC Hamot. He was 76.

Mr. Metheney was born April 18, 1937 in Iveydale, W.Va. to Hans and Dora Butler Metheney.

Albert was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his county during the Korean conflict and was wounded in battle.

In his earlier years, he was employed with Avtex Fibers until its closing.

He was subsequently employed with the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired in 2013.

He was a member of American Legion Post 111 in Meadville and American Legion Post 205 in Saegertown.

Albert married Deloris "Dee" Craig on Feb. 23, 1962, and celebrated nearly 52 years together. She survives.

Also surviving are: two sons, Doug Metheney, husband of Sharon, Johnsonburg, Pa.; and Dennis Metheney, Meadville; five grandchildren, Madelynne, Ali, Kayli, Mary and Jacob Metheney; a great grandson, Micah; two sisters, Sandy Hinds, wife of Frankie; Grove City; and Sherry Canane, wife of Bill, Grove City; three brothers, William Metheney, Grove City; Richard Metheney, husband of Faye, Volant; and David J. Metheney, husband of Doreen, Grove City.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patty Foust; and a brother, Larry Metheney.
