Marcia Genger Mitchell Keir

Bethany ed director was active in her communities

GREENVILLE — Marcia Genger Mitchell Keir of St. Paul's, 339 E. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, formerly of Mercer, died of pneumonia on Wednesday evening, Dec. 14, 2011, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91.

Mrs. Keir was born March 16, 1920, in West Middlesex to Meade and Maggie Small Genger.

She attended the Oak Hill one-room school for eight years and graduated from West Middlesex High School.

Marcia became manager of the former A & P store and drove a school bus during World War II.

On April 29, 1943, she married Raymond Mitchell, who died July 19, 1960. In March 1978, she wed Clayton Keir, who died January 1981.

She was Christian education director for a number of years at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer.

Marcia was employed at Nelson's Flowers, Mercer, and at St. Paul Homes.

She was a member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville, where she was named 1998 Woman of the Year.

She enjoyed traveling and hiking, family gatherings, reading and bowling. In 1993, Mrs. Keir was a Volunteer In Mission at Sitka, Alaska. She also volunteered at Greenville Railroad Museum, Good Shepherd Center, Greenville, and Raisch Log Cabin, Sharpsville.

She was an active member of Mercer County Spinners and Weavers, demonstrating flax spinning at various fairs and schools. Marcia resided at St. Paul Homes at the time of her death.

She is survived by: her children, Kaye Motovidlak and husband Frank, Levittown, Pa.; Dane Mitchell and his wife Candy, Jamestown; Lynn Saylor and her husband David, Troy, Mich.; and Noel Mitchell and wife Mary, Slippery Rock.

She had 10 grandchildren: Ted Motovidlak III, Shay Prendergast, Emily Orlowski, Brian Mitchell, Lori Pears, Raymond Saylor, Cara Lynch, the late Owen Mitchell, Eric Mitchell and Cpl. Anna Mitchell; and 11 great-grandchildren, Avery, Ethan, Tyler, Kasey, Austin, Haley, Taylor, Mary, Nicolai, Nadia and Evan.

Besides her husbands, Marcia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Conrad Genger, John Hesson Genger and Ord Cubbage Genger; and grandson, Owen Mitchell.

She is survived by a brother, Daniel Keith Genger, Lake Havasu, Ariz.

Funeral service was Saturday (12-17-11) in Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville, with Pastor Aland Smith officiating. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the funeral in the church.

Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.

Arrangements by Baird Funeral Home, 14 Louisa Ave., Greenville.
