Dorothy Jane Brumbaugh

Stoneboro High graduate was businesswoman

NEW WILMINGTON — Dorothy Jane Brumbaugh, 92, formerly of Stoneboro, New Wilmington, Pa. and Poland, Ohio, passed away at 9:38 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012 in the Overlook Medical Clinic, New Wilmington, after a period of failing health.

Born Nov. 14, 1919 in Lake Township, Mercer County, she was a daughter of Gust and Twila Mae Ransom Doyle.

She graduated from Stoneboro High School and Franklin Business School, Franklin, Pa.

Mrs. Brumbaugh was a businesswoman; from 1954 to 1967, she owned and operated two businesses, The Grill Restaurant of New Wilmington, and during the summer months The Rochester Hotel at Lake Chautauqua, N.Y., and in 1967 she opened the Landmark Restaurant of New Wilmington, retiring in 1975.

For many years, Mrs. Brumbaugh served as president of the American Business Women's Association of the Mercer-Lawrence County region. Also in her earlier years in Stoneboro, she served as a justice of the peace and was also a real estate agent.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Over the years, she enjoyed bowling and time spent with her family. She was well known for her baking skills, especially her pies and sticky rolls.

Her first husband William P. McQuaid, whom she married in 1938, passed away in 1985. Her second husband James R. Brumbaugh, whom she married in 1953, passed away in 1954.

Survivors include four sons: Phillip W. Brumbaugh, Naples, N.Y., Rolland L. "Butch" Brumbaugh and wife Judy, New Wilmington, David A. Brumbaugh and wife Sandra, Gastonia, N.C. and Dale D. Brumbaugh and wife Wilma, Poland, Ohio; 10 grandchildren;  13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William E. Doyle and wife Doris, Sandy Lake, and Donald E. Doyle, Stoneboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sisters Evelyn Mae "Ezzie" Thomas and Tressa H. Wilson; a daughter-in-law Donna Brumbaugh and a half brother Lee Doyle.

Calling hours were Thursday (4-19-12) in the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro.

Funeral service was Friday (4-20-12) in the funeral home with Rev. Patti Harbison, Pastor, New Wilmington United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
