Polk retiree had helped operate family farm

POLK — Jean Gadsby of 1053 Hell's Kitchen Road, Mineral Township, Polk, formerly of Harrisville Road, Stoneboro, passed away peacefully at 2 p.m. Wednesday (1-2-13), in her home due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was 79.

Mrs. Gadsby was born as a twin and always loved being a twin to her sister, Joan. They were born April 1, 1933, in Worth Township, Mercer County, to Floyd F. and Jessie W. Buckley Kilgore.

Jean was a 1950 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School.

In her early years, she worked at the former P-Wall Manufacturing of Grove City and Meadow Gold of Sandy Lake. She retired from what was Polk State School in 1991 after 33 years of service. She truly loved her job at Polk.

Along with her husband, she operated Gadsby Farms in Worth Township, now operated by her son Keith and grandsons.

Mrs. Gadsby was a member of Sandy Lake Wesleyan Church. She lived her faith and loved sharing her faith with others.

Family was very important to her; she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and traveling.

She married Orville Gadsby on July 31, 1951; he survives at home.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Karen Gadsby Bell, Stoneboro; two sons, Keith G. Gadsby and his wife Cathy; and John O. Gadsby and his wife Ginny, all Stoneboro; 10 grandchildren, Jason Gadsby and his wife Cassie, Justin Gadsby and his wife Jessica, Larry Gadsby, Adam Gadsby and his wife Jen, Isaac Gadsby and his wife Jen, Aaron Gadsby and his wife Casey, Austin Snyder and his companion Adele, Matthew Snyder, Cassandra Scott and her husband Brian, and Timothy Gadsby; 18 great-grandchildren; and her twin sister, Joan Kilgore, Grove City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Grace Hope Gadsby; five sisters, Evelyn Amon, Kathryn Hovis, Geraldine McMullen, Iverna Doyle and Frances Eileen Peterson; and an infant brother.

Calling hours were Friday (1-4-13) in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro; and Saturday (1-5-13) in New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer St., Sandy Lake.

Funeral service was Saturday in the church with her grandson, the Rev. Aaron J. Gadsby of Mount Olivet Wesleyan Church, Six Mile, S.C., officiating.

Interment with committal service in the Gadsby Family Cemetery, Mineral Township, Venango County.
