WWII vet born in GC was married 64 years

HERMITAGE — Robert P. Hanson of Hermitage passed away at 6:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, on his 64th wedding anniversary, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 86.

Mr. Hanson was born March 6, 1926, in Grove City to Earnest and Isabelle Pizer Hanson.

He was employed at Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 36 years, retiring in 1985 when the Sharon Transformer Division closed. Mr. Hanson was part of the marketing department there for many years.

He was a member of New Virginia United Methodist Church, Hermitage, and was active in the choir and men's Sunday school class.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Hanson served in the Army Air Force from 1944-46 and was a member of American Legion Post 299, Sharon; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage.

Robert enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing euchre and woodworking.

His wife, the former Margaret Perrine, whom he married Dec. 10, 1948, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Karen Meadows and her husband Kevin, Havre De Grace, Md.; and Karol Patton and her husband Rob, Hermitage; a son, Kent Hanson and his wife Vân, St. Paul, Minn.; two brothers, Paul Hanson and his wife Gwen, Lake Alford, Fla.; and Ronald Hanson and his wife Edie, Haines City, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Emilie Hanson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Kristen Keiser, Hillsdale, N.J.; Kortney Meadows, Havre De Grace; and Jackson and Ryan Patton, both Hermitage.

Mr. Hanson was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elaine Sherwood and Lois Maybray; and a brother, Clifford Hanson.

Funeral service was Saturday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Mark E. Goswick, pastor of New Virginia United Methodist Church, Hermitage, officiating.

After services, cremation in the funeral home was followed by burial in Mount Washington Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
