JACKSON CENTER — Margaret F. Hassel of Jackson Center, formerly of Craig Street, Grove City, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at home after an extended illness. She was 78.

Margaret was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Sapulpa, Okla., to Arvel B. and  Helen A. Schlosser Thompson

She married Frederick T. Hassel on April 14, 1952; he passed away on Aug. 27, 1987.

Mrs. Hassel formerly was employed by the Odd Fellows Home and Econo-Wash Laundromat, both Grove City.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She formerly bowled, and she enjoyed crocheting and working word search puzzles.

Survivors include: her children, Thomas J. Hassel and his wife Becky, Tavares, Fla.; Joseph E. "Ed" Hassel and his wife Pat, and Catherine E. Hassel, all Grove City; Leslie C. "Tina" Brazel, Shaker Heights, Ohio; Anna M. Stull, Midland, Texas; and Frederick T. "Fritz" Hassel II and his wife Mary, Jackson Center; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Juanita Surrena and Connie Wallingford, both in Texas; Esther Dixon in Colorado; Rocky Thompson in Arizona; and Mary Martell in Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a great-grandson, Joshua R. Hassel, who died June 27, 2006; a brother, James Thompson; and a sister, Phyllis Snead.
