A longtime member of the GC community leaves us

GROVE CITY — Madeleine Coulter McBride of Grove City, passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 14, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.

A daughter of Harold Wick Coulter and Evelyn McCurdy Coulter from Wolf Creek Township, Mrs. McBride was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Detroit, and lived there for a brief period before moving to Western Pennsylvania.

She lived in Sharon and attended First Presbyterian Church until she moved to Grove City in 1934.

Mrs. McBride graduated from Grove City High School in 1943 and from Grove City College in 1947, where she majored in history.

She married Milford L. McBride Jr. on Aug. 6, 1947, and they lived in Philadelphia while he finished his law degree prior to returning to Grove City in 1949.

Mrs. McBride was a member of Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City, where she volunteered as an assistant church secretary for many years.

She was devoted to numerous civic organizations. She was one of the founding members of Grove City Community Library and was very active in the Grove City Junior Women's Club and served as president from 1959 to 1960. Mrs. McBride served on the board of the Pennsylvania State Federation of Women's Clubs from 1960 to 1962.

She was active in the Grove City Hospital Auxiliary and formerly chaired and co-chaired its Charity Ball, the annual fundraiser for hospital projects. In addition, she was a founding charter member of the Grove City Historical Society, where she also volunteered and shared her love of local history.

Of special note, she and her family supported the American Field Service (AFS) program by hosting a foreign exchange student for a year, Dr. Kevin P. Kearney of Omaru, New Zealand, with whom they remain close.

Mrs. McBride was an avid photographer and enjoyed antiquing and traveling. As a dedicated homemaker, she loved spending time with her large family, including five children and 11 grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Marta J. McBride Galicki and her husband Alan Galicki, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and their children, Francesca and Alexander; Brenda K. McBride and her husband David Henderson, Slippery Rock, and their children, Kathryn and Danielle; Milford L. McBride III, Hermitage, and his children, Kristen, Marie and Brett; Dr. Randolph A. McBride and his wife Claudia Holland, Fairfax, Va., and their son Wyatt; and Dr. Barry C. McBride and his wife Beth McBride, Denver, Colo., and their children, Matthew Jorden, Elsie and Benjamin.

Mrs. McBride was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Milford L. McBride Jr., and her parents, Harold Wick Coulter and Evelyn McCurdy Coulter.

Calling hours: Were 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (11-15-13) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City; and 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday (11-16-13) before the service in Tower Presbyterian Church, 248 S. Broad St., Grove City.

Service: Funeral celebration of life service at 2 p.m. today in the church with the Rev. Dr. Glenn M. Hink, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, presiding.

Interment: Private in Woodland Cemetery, Grove City.
