Annetta Joyce (Humphrey) Hoffman

Former surgical nurse helped WWII veterans

Lock Haven, Pa. — Annetta Joyce (Humphrey) Hoffman, of Lock Haven, Pa., and Wilmington, Del., passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013. She was 86.

Mrs. Hoffman was born June 28, 1926, in Mercer, a daughter of the late Arthur and Aletha (Critchlow) Humphrey.

A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Hoffman obtained her degree in nursing and worked as a surgical nurse. During World War II, as wounded veterans were returned to the United States, she contributed to their care at Butler Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Conneautville.

Her husband, Dr. Richard B. Hoffman, whom she married June 9, 1948, passed away Feb. 15, 2003. She was also predeceased by her sister, Carol Dawn.

Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her children: Arthur John Hoffman, Howard, Pa.; Ann Jeanette Hoffman, Wilmington, Del.; and Jody Lynn Hoffman, Newark, Del; her six grandchildren; and her great-grandson. She is also survived by her brother, Dave Humphrey; and her sister, Jani Giesler.

Memorial services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Hoffman may be made to the Lock Haven Library, 232 W. Main St., Lock Haven, PA 17745.
