Dorothy Irene Gallagher Moniot of Worth Township, Butler County (Portersville), died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday (1-30-11) in Trinity Living Center, Grove City. She was 95.
Born May 21, 1915, in Canton, Ohio, Dorothy was a daughter of Michael William and Clementena Mary Oswald Gallagher.
She graduated from Butler High School in 1931, and attended Government Business School.
On May 23, 1939, Dorothy married Joseph E. “Sid” Moniot, who passed away April 16, 1988.
A homemaker, Mrs. Moniot was also a dairy farmer for 32 years.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Slippery Rock, since its founding in 1939, and was also a charter member of the church’s Christian Mothers group.
Dorothy was also active with Butler County 4-H, serving as a leader for eight years; and belonged to the Worth Grange.
Mrs. Moniot is survived by: five sons, Daniel E. and wife Peggy Moniot, Glenshaw, Pa.; Eugene L. and wife Lilli Moniot, Orange Park, Fla.; J. David and wife Susan Moniot, Mars, Pa.; Charles V. and wife Colleen Moniot, Madison, Ohio; and Kenneth L. and wife Ann Moniot, Portersville; two daughters, Marie C. Peterson, Hermitage; and Irene M. and husband David James, Fontana, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph “Sid” Moniot; a daughter, Ann Nora Moniot; three brothers, Charles, Eugene and Kenneth Gallagher; and a sister, Mary Greenwalt.
Calling hours were Tuesday (2-1-11) in Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. today (2-2-11) in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Kevin Poecking, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment in Zion Baptist Cemetery, Worth Township, Butler County.
