Donald D. Winger

Korean War veteran was Mason, retired machinist

FRANKLIN — Donald D. Winger, 325 Roberts Road, Mill Creek Township, formerly of Grove City, passed away at 12:18 a.m. Monday (5-27-13) at Sugar Creek Station, Franklin, following a brief illness. He was 84.

He was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Williamsport, Pa., a son of Thomas R. and Leilda Mae Fleeger Winger.

He attended Williamsport High School.

Mr. Winger retired from the former Cooper-Bessemer of Grove City after 42 years of service as a machinist.

He was a member of New Lebanon Community Church.

Don was a proud veteran of the Korean conflict and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Roanoke in the Mediterranean Sea.

Don enjoyed the outdoors and had enjoyed golfing, hunting and bowling. He enjoyed going to the McQuiston Center in Sandy Lake and visiting with friends.

A man of many talents and a good "go to" person and handyman for many, Don will be sadly missed. Over the years he did roofing jobs, delivered coal and drove school bus for Beatty Busing of Grove City.

He was a 50-year member and past master of Grove City Lodge 603 Free and Accepted Masons and was a member of Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory.

His first wife, the former Mary Miller preceded him in death Feb. 2, 1983; his second wife, the former Jeanne I. Muschick, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Carol J. Burt and husband Paul, Cochranton; and Paula F. Lamberson and husband David, Liverpool, N.Y.; three sons: Ed D. Winger and wife Patricia, Franklin; James D. Winger, Grove City; and Brian L. Winger and wife Elaine, Bellefonte, Pa; seven grandchildren, Adele Rice and husband Jason, serving as missionaries in Slovakia; Stephen Winger, Erie; Haley Winger, Franklin; Thea Jeschke and husband Aaron, Vienna, Va.; Cara Lamberson, Liverpool; Michael Winger, Bellefonte; and Scott Winger, serving with the Marine Corps in Okinawa; and three great-grandchildren: Gavin, Peyton and Dawson Rice, all Slovakia.

Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Kenneth Winger.

Calling hours: 10 a.m. until time of service Friday (5-31-13) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Friday (5-31-13) in the funeral home. Following Friday's service, family and friends are invited to gather at Ed and Pat Winger's home, 1550 Westview Drive, Franklin.

Inurnment: Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
