Elementary teacher was active church pianist

PINE — Janet Faye Shoup Grove, Manor Drive, Pine Township, passed away at home in the arms of her loving husband, Dale, on Thursday evening, March 13, 2014, following a brief illness. She was 66.

Janet was born Nov. 15, 1947 in St. Petersburg, Clarion County; the daughter of Lawrence L. and Ethel Ketner Shoup.

She was a 1965 honors graduate at Emlenton High School in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Clarion University in 1969, where she was a Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society member. She went on to earn a master's degree in elementary education at Clarion University in 1971.

Janet was employed as an elementary teacher in the Valley Grove School District in Franklin and taught at Rocky Grove Elementary School from 1969 to 1976. She loved her teaching days and enjoyed many, wonderful memories of her students and co-workers.

Janet was an active church member and enjoyed participating in the women's group with missions projects and serving in various offices. She was the church pianist and choir accompanist for many years at Center Presbyterian Church, Pine Township. From the 7th grade to college, Janet was the pianist for Sunday School and church at St. Petersburg United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved vegetable gardening, as well as flowers, canning, freezing, baking and lawn care.

Janet married Dale R. Grove on Dec. 20, 1975 in St. Petersburg United Methodist Church. They shared 38 years of married life and resided in the Grove City area. He survives.

Also surviving are five siblings: Betty M. Weeter, Clarion; Lawrence Richard Shoup, husband of Darla, Shippenville; Robert K. Shoup, husband of Marilyn, Butler; Kenneth R. Shoup, husband of Peggy, Grove City; Ronald E. Shoup, husband of Alice, Oil City; his sister and brother in law, Bonnie and David Fitzgerald, Grove City; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and two great-great nephews.

She requested before her death that any memorial donations be used to benefit children, whether it be a clothing purchase, taking a child to lunch or contributing to any cause that seeks to benefit children.

Services: In accordance with Janet's wishes before her death, a private funeral service was held Sunday afternoon (3-16-14) at HILE FUNERAL HOME Inc., St. Petersburg, with the Rev. Daniel R. Myers, pastor of St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Online condolences at
