Retired nurse was active in Beloved Disciple church

PINE — Janet M. Abplanalp, Grove City, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a short illness. She was 87.

Janet was born April 23, 1926, in Kane, Pa., to John J. and Annabell Pytcher Kane.

She was a graduate of Mount Jewett (Pa.) High School and a 1946 alumna of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Buffalo, N.Y.

Janet retired as a registered nurse after 46 years of nursing from the former United Community Hospital, Pine Township. She began her career in nursing in Grove City at the former Bashline Memorial Hospital and following her retirement worked part-time as a registered nurse at Grove Manor, Grove City.

An active member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Pine Township, Janet was president of the church Rosary Altar Society and was always willing to help in any area within the church and the community.

Surviving are: six children, John Abplanalp and his wife Tracy, Mercer; Mary "pat" Priester, Largo, Fla.; Margaret "Peg" A. Janes and Susan L. Abplanalp, both Mercer; and Raymond L. Abplanalp and his wife Ruth, and Frances "Francie" Abplanalp, all Grove City; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two sisters, Helen Louise Nolan and her husband Dr. Joe Nolan, Chicago; and Suzanne Valdini, Anna Marie Island, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Raymond and Robert Kane.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. today (8-24-13) in Church of the Beloved Disciple, Pine Township.

Interment: McKean (County) Memorial Park.
