MERCER — Obituary was published Sept. 29, 2010.
Craig Allen Green of 565 N. Maple St., Mercer, passed away peacefully at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He recently turned 60, celebrating his birthday at his favorite yearly vacation at the Outer Banks, N.C., surrounded by family.
Mr. Green was born July 28, 1950, in New Castle to Ralph E. and Dolores Wolfe Green.
He was a graduate of New Castle High School and New Castle Business College, where he met his beloved wife.
Mr. Green served in the Navy for four years, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS Frank Knox.
He attended Mercer United Methodist Church.
Craig worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Grove City. He enjoyed working alongside all his coworkers for more than 31 years, delivering mail with pride in all types of weather.
His wife, the former Cindy Lou Harris, with whom he exchanged wedding vows on Nov. 4, 1978, survives at home. Also surviving are two sons, Christopher and his wife Audrey, Charlotte, N.C.; and Corey and his companion Summer Kerr, Columbus, Ohio.
Craig also leaves to honor his memory his brothers-in-law, Thomas L. Harris and his wife Kathie, Mercer; and Richard “Pickle” Harris and his wife Carol, Volant; and his father-in-law, Thomas L. Harris, Mercer, whom Craig loved and respected like a father.
Also surviving are his treasured nieces and nephews, Billie Jo Saccol and her husband Tony, Volant; Todd Harris and his wife Tori, Tiffin, Ohio; Trent Harris and his wife Jen, Grove City; Troy Harris, Mercer; and Willie Harris and his wife Jordan, New Castle.
Family meant everything to Craig and he felt fortunate to have surrounding him with love four great-nieces, Corrine, Taylor, Katelyn and Lucie Jean Harris; and a great-nephew, Hunter Harris.
Craig leaves behind three dearly loved granddogs, Ali, Sadie and Trey. He spent many happy moments with these precious animals.
Craig loved sports and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, but he especially loved teaching his sons to play golf; and coaching and watching them play baseball, basketball and football.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Elizabeth Green; a sister, Candace Green; a nephew, Kevin Green; and his mother-in-law, Jean Harris.
Calling hours were Sunday (9-26-10) and Monday (9-27-10) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 144 S. Pitt St., Mercer.
Funeral service was Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Leonard, pastor of Mercer United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites were rendered by American Legion Post 432, Wheatland, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex.
Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
