Viola “Vi” Orr, a resident of Superior Street, Grove City, since 1956, died after a brief illness at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Butler Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Monday. She was 86.
Mrs. Orr was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Grove City to Albert Schmelzer and Alma Stoops Schmelzer.
She married James W. Orr May 28, 1947. He died Nov. 23, 2005.
A homemaker, she was of the Protestant faith.
Mrs. Orr was a true Christian woman who truly loved her husband, children and grandchildren and enjoyed her life and family.
She is survived by: four children, Vicki Strausser and her former husband John, Greenville; William “Bill” Orr; Jeff Orr and his wife Kathy; and Bruce Orr and his wife Patty, all of Grove City; her grandchildren, Danielle Tredway and husband Patrick; Ray and Maggie Orr; James “J.J.” Strausser; and Jon Strausser; her stepgrandchildren, Matt Strausser; Tim Strausser and his wife Darcie; Angela Campagna; and Tony Campagna and his wife Angie; her stepgreat-grandchildren, Kaston, Jack and Ty Strausser; one brother, John Schmelzer and his wife Mary Lou, Grove City; and one sister-in-law, Madeline Raybuck, Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three sisters, Anna Belle Duffy and infant twin sisters, Alice and Aleen Schmelzer.
Calling hours were Tuesday (1-4-11) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. today (1-5-11) in the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Benninger, a retired Greenville pastor, officiating.
Interment in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
