Two running for Rock school board seat

SLIPPERY ROCK — Two incumbents are vying for an opening on Slippery Rock school board in Tuesday's general election.

Republican Mark Taylor and Democrat David F. Hutner, both of Slippery Rock Township, are in the running for a two-year seat to represent Region 1, which covers Harrisville and Mercer and Slippery Rock townships.

Hutner is in his fourth year on the board and chairs the athletics committee and he is the aquatic/program director for the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in parks and recreation and a master's degree in resource management, both from Slippery Rock University, and is involved with numerous organizations.

Taylor was appointed to the board in December to fill a vacancy and has said he wants to help resolve the issues the district faces because of continued budget cuts while trying to minimize tax increases.
