Drilling permits, 14 violations recorded

BUTLER, MERCER COUNTY AREAS — Fourteen violations and multiple permits for gas and oil drilling were issued over the past month, according to records detailing activities in and around the Allied News coverage area.

The following information includes reports from Butler, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties for the month of March and the end of February.

The data was collected from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection website at www.depwebstate.pa.us and SkyTruth.

SkyTruth, a nonprofit, gathers information from DEP records and issues free alerts to subscribers via email that lists drilling activities and violations as well as “daily updates of environmentally significant incidents by geographical area.”

DEP issued these violations:

• Eight in Butler County:

Two environmental, health and safety violations were issued to Re Gas Dev LLC on March 21 for failure to properly store, transport, process or dispose of a residual waste at a drill site in Lancaster Township.

Two environmental, health and safety violations were issued to Re Gas Dev on March 21 for failure to properly store, transport, process or dispose of a residual waste at a drill site in Forward Township.

Two environmental, health and safety violations were issued to XTO Energy Inc., on March 21 for failure to properly store, transport, process or dispose of a residual waste at a drill site in Buffalo Township.

Two environmental, health and safety violations were issued to XTO Energy Inc., on March 21 for failure to properly store, transport, process or dispose of a residual waste at a drill site in Connoquenessing Township.

• Six in Venango County:

An environmental, health and safety violation was issued to Trimont Energy LLC on March 20 for discharge of industrial waste to waters of Commonwealth without a permit at a drill site in Cranberry Township.

An environmental, health and safety violation was issued to Trimont on March 11 for failure to properly control or dispose of industrial or residual waste to prevent pollution of the waters of the Commonwealth at a drill site in Cranberry Township.

An environmental, health and safety violation was issued to Trimont on March 14 for discharge of industrial waste to waters of Commonwealth without a permit at a drill site in Cranberry Township.

An environmental, health and safety violation was issued to Airdale Oil and Amp Gas LLC on March 11 for discharge of industrial waste to waters of Commonwealth without a permit at a drill site in Cornplanter Township.

An administrative violation was issued to Trimont on March 12 for failure to maintain 2 feet of freeboard in an impoundment at a drill site in Cranberry Township.

An administrative violation was issued to Trimont on March 10 for failure to notify DEP or surface landowner or local political subdivision 24 hours prior to commencement of drilling, failure to electronically notify DEP and failure to re-notify DEP in regards to a drill site in Cranberry Township.

DEP issued these permits:

• Thirty-one gas well permits in Butler County:

Four in Connoquenessing Township to XTO on the Lutherlyn property; nine in Connoquenessing Township to XTO on the Guiher property; two in Center Township to Shell Oil on the Renick property; four in Lancaster Township to Re Gas Dev on the Dorsch property; two in Jefferson Township to XTO on the Beilstein property; two in Winfield Township to Redmill Drilling on the Brunn property; two in Oakland Township to EM Energy PA LLC on the Draco property; two in Jefferson Township to XTO on the Veselich property; and four in Jefferson Township to XTO on the Vadnal property.

• Fifteen permits in Lawrence County:

Three combined oil and gas permits in Pulaski Township to Hilcorp Energy Co. on the Verno South property; one combined oil and gas permit in Pulaski Township to Hilcorp on the Verno North property; five combined oil and gas permits in Pulaski Township to Hilcorp on the Artman North property; one gas permit in Pulaski Township to Hilcorp on the Artman South property; two combined oil and gas permits in Pulaski Township to Hilcorp on the Artman South property; and three gas permits in North Beaver Township to Hilcorp on the North Beaver Sportsman Club property.

• Two combined oil and gas permits in Mercer County: one in Otter Creek Township to Halcon OPR Co. Inc. on the Pilgram property; and on in Delaware Township to Halcon on the Pilgram property.

• Twenty-eight permits in Venango County:

Two gas permits in Richland Township to Chevron Appalachia LLC on the Brosius property; one combined oil and gas permit in Frenchcreek Township to Halcon on the Allam property; one combined oil and gas permit in Frenchcreek Township on the Rainbow property; 12 oil permits in Cornplanter Township to Xite Energy Inc. on the Corse property; one combined oil and gas permit in Richland Township to Roilwell Inc. on the Stephens property; and 11 oil permits in Cranberry Township to Trimont on the Speerstra property.
