Stoneboro teen killed in crash

STONEBORO — A 17-year-old Stoneboro girl died on Thursday.

Katie Lynn Gilmore, of 12 Beech St., died at 12:55 p.m. after her car crashed around noon Thursday (7-8-10) on Route 845 in Stoneboro.

According to state police in Jackson Township:

Katie was driving south on 845 when she lost control of her vehicle, and traveled into the oncoming lane. The front of her vehicle struck the right side of a car driven by Todd A. Heckman, 43, Stoneboro.

Katie was declared dead at scene by the Mercer County deputy coroner Robert Snyder, said Trooper Ronald Scott, investigator. She was not wearing a seatbelt, he added.

Heckman was air lifted to St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio, with major injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Heckman was listed in satisfactory condition at St. Elizabeth's on Friday, according to a hospital spokesperson.

It took about 2 hours to clear the crash site, Scott said. Traffic was detoured from the area, he added.

“We haven't determined how she lost control of vehicle.”
