BUTLER, MERCER COUNTY AREAS — Area gas and oil drilling activities filed over the past month show various permits and violations.

The following information includes Butler, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties and the data came from the state Department of Environmental Protection website records and SkyTruth.

SkyTruth is a nonprofit group that uses remote sensing and digital maps to create images that "expose the landscape disruption and habitat degradation caused by mining, oil and gas drilling, deforestation, fishing and other human activities," according to its website.

SkyTruth, which gathers information from DEP records, issues alerts about drilling activities and violations via e-mail notifications.
