GROVE CITY —
Residents in Grove City Borough will be sleeping in the dark this weekend.
The borough will be planning a power outage shortly after 10 p.m. this Saturday until sometime Sunday morning, according to a press release issued by the borough. It's estimated that the outage will be 12 hours long.
"We will work as quickly as possible to get the electricity flowing again and will turn the power back on sooner if the work can be completed in less time," it added. "Please note that during a planned outage your power may be turned off and on more than once within the planned window of time."
The outage is needed to help workers who will be replacing a 69,000 KV air break switch at the borough's substation on Park Avenue.
"The power to the entire borough will need to be disrupted while the switch is being replaced," according to the release. "Our contractor will work as quickly as possible. As soon as the work is complete we will re-energize the system."
Residents can prepare for the outage by:
■ Learning how to manually open their doors.
■ Notifying security companies that monitor your home.
■ Protecting your computers, televisions and other sensitive equipment by unplugging them.
■ Keeping your refrigerator and freezer doors securely closed.
Business with no backup power supply may consider renting one. The borough cannot reimburse costs for the system.
The outage may affect private telephone systems and the borough so residents should prepare to have access to a telephone that operates without electricity.
The borough, which provides residents and businesses with electricity, said in the release it appreciated peoples' patience during the upgrade project.
Questions may be directed to the borough's electric department at 724-458-7070.
