GROVE CITY —
The Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced the winners of the lighted displays at the fourth annual Christmas in the Park at Grove City Memorial Park. Lit nightly from 5 to 11 p.m. from Nov. 23 through Jan. 1, Christmas in the Park delights thousands of visitors each year.
The event is made up of individual displays from businesses, organizations and individuals and includes 25 displays this year. Weekends from 6 to 9 p.m. volunteers pass out candy canes to everyone in the cars that go through the displays.
Each year the Chamber enlists local chamber members who do not have an entry to help judge for the first, second and third place winners. Judges base their decisions on different criteria, including theme, creativity, visibility, and sturdiness of the display, an important factor.
The opening weekend of the event allows for a People's Choice winner, and newly added this year was a Kid's Choice award.
This year's winners are:
1st Place - Grove City High School, TMS Physical Therapy, Sherwin Williams and Montgomery Truss, who collaborated with the high school art students to build a display lighted in silhouette, with a bridge holding a horse-drawn carriage and a backdrop of buildings with lighted windows, etc.
2nd Place - Sweeny Photography, with kids capturing a picture of Santa coming down the chimney.
3rd Place - Aesthetique Brigitte, a snow lady with long eyelashes.
People's Choice - Daffin's Candies, lighted trees, reindeer and a sleigh.
Kid's Choice - Turner Insurance, lighted tree, snowmen and a lighted train.
The Chamber appreciates the support it gets from the businesses, organizations and individuals who set up displays, and from the visitors who drive through each year and offer comments of appreciation.
